December 7 - Update on Promotion Games and Disney

Been a while since I've used the blog, but since Disney is approaching, I figured I need to get back in the habit.

First things first, this weekend we have our PLW promotion games against Albion. The games are at Burroughs #3 at noon on both days.  Unless you hear otherwise, let's wear NAVY on Saturday and WHITE on Sunday. I think you all know this by now, but these are really important. We have worked hard to get to this point, so let's make sure we help the girls with all the little things that can help their performance. The ones that have been playing school soccer are burning the candle at both ends, so they should probably take it easy on Friday and get a good night sleep at the very least.

I know Mark really wants to have the whole crew at training this week. Plan on the usual times unless you hear back from me. Roz is back in town this week too.

ODP. The deadline for ODP registration is 12/9. Remember, it's ok if you miss the tryouts on 12/13-14. Just let me know you've registered. Thank you if you already have.

Disney is around the corner. This time I'm a little more prepared for the check-in process, so no more last minute release forms. I promise. In fact, I'm going to try to check in online early. In order to do that, I need your help.

Download this form. If you can send it back to me in a PDF format, that would be great! Otherwise a scan will do, and I can convert it. Or if you can bring it to training, that works too. But, please no photos. I need these back by 12/12 in order to make the deadline for online check-in.

Lastly, you may remember the team roster/brochure thing I made. I'm hoping we will actually be putting it to use at Disney. So, if you have any updates, please let me know. I'll post the most recent version on the blog here in case you've forgotten. Can't do that til Monday though (it's at work).

Take a look at the SCL schedule and the NPL schedule. The links are on the right hand side of the home page of the blog. We've had a few games move around. I mentioned some of them in yesterday's email. Please check both schedules just so you're up to speed on all the upcoming games.
The SCL schedule doesn't reflect it yet, but I am almost certain the 10/4 game is moving to the evening of 10/2 at Dad's Club in Clear Lake.

This Saturday (9/27) we play Texas Rush at Burroughs #6 at 2:00 PM. We will wear WHITE. On Sunday, we have an NPL game against Eclipse. This game is in Alvin at the Ron Carter complex, field #2 at 11:00 am. Let's wear NAVY, but bring everything to both games.

1156 Fox Meadow Dr.
Alvin, TX 77511

Our game against Challenge got reschedule for October 26. That's the day after our game in San Antonio. It's at 2:00 though, so hopefully the girls can sleep in and fully recover.

Ok, Disney. Games start on December 31 and can go through January 3. I have a block of rooms at the same hotel. I'll be sending along an email with the link and the confirmation number to reserve your room(s) the same way we did last time. We have two weeks to make those reservations, then the rooms get released. Flights aren't cheap due to the timing around the holidays. I haven't seen a schedule yet, but be warned that the boys part of the tournament is December 26-30. So, if you want to add time to your trip, you'll have an easier time extending your hotel after the tournament. If you are planning on sending your daughter with another family or team, let me know how I can help. I think my whole family is coming, and we are happy to host any of your girls with us.

Tulsa. Take a look at that NPL schedule and you'll see the March 21-22 games in Tulsa. This is the second weekend of Spring Break for most of us. Flights will be expensive and will probably fill up early. Those of you traveling on spring break may want to consider flying into Tulsa from whatever awesome destination you were already at. I just wanted to give you a heads up as you may be making those plans.

SCL game and Disney in December

I think the girls are still buzzing from this weekend, and rightfully so. For those of you who couldn't make it, the girls really put on quite the performance. I continue to be impressed with their great athleticism and what impressive, intelligent, and fun young ladies they are.

I had the unique pleasure of watching Mark coach and guide the girls first hand, and I can tell you we are lucky to have him. The girls know this too.

As you know, our performance this last weekend earned us an invitation to the big event at Disney/ESPN WWOS. It is arguably the biggest college showcase event in the country. We have only a week to claim our spot and register for the tournament. From the conversations I have had about it with many of you, I'm assuming we want to go. The dates are December 31 - January 3. Same place. If you can't make it, or don't want to go, please let me know as soon as possible. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you are on board.

This weekend
We have our first SCL game this weekend. It's in Pflugerville (west side of Austin) at 1:00 PM against Lonestars Red South. Google maps says a little more than 2.5 hours from my house. If you're driving up that morning, plan accordingly and try to have fed your daughter before 11:00 on the way up, and at the fields around noon. Let's wear WHITE, but bring the whole kit. We are on field #5.

Last few things...if your daughter didn't get a medal this weekend, I have it and I will bring to practice today. Also, if you or your daughter saw the little flyer/brochure thing I put together and they want to make changes or edits, please email me or have them email me.

This week and Disney

What a weekend! Blazing heat and two very different games. It was nice to see what the girls are capable of on Sunday.

Tonight, we are doing a "regen" session with Roz instead of the usual speed and agility. The focus will be on stretching and recovery. There's a few nagging injuries on the team, and I'm sure they're tired from this weekend - hopefully this will help get them ready for our trip this weekend. Have your daughter bring her foam roller and alpha ball tonight. Futsal to follow after the session with Roz.

Also, spectators (that's you) will have to pay for admission into the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Be aware that tickets are $16.50 per day or $33 for the whole tournament.

Later this week, I'll send out a draft version of the marketing brochure with player bio's.

I hope you enjoyed the get together on Saturday. I thought Mark did a great job explaining where the girls are and what to expect. I think we are lucky to have Mark as our trainer. Also, a big thanks to the Kallmeyers. Those beers hit the spot for me.

Jeff Borchers found this and suggested I send it out to the team. I think it's a very good read and echoes much of what Mark said on Saturday. Please take the time to look at it and share with your daughter.

One last thing. Once we get back from Orlando, don't get too comfy, we will be back on the road again for our first game of SCL play. Playing Lonestar in Austin on that next Saturday at 1:00.

Texas Rush Cup - August 16 and 17

This weekend we will have our first test, playing in the Texas Rush Cup.

Here is a link to our schedule.

Unfortunately, it is a little on the early side, and it's a heck of a drive for most of us.
We play at 7:30AM and 1:30PM on Saturday, and again at 7:30 on Sunday. The final is at 1:30 on Sunday.

All of our games are at Woodlands High School.
6101 Research Forest Dr.

Y'all know the drill: bring both kits, arrive at least 45 min early, and show up believing we will win.

Saturday 7:30 at WHS #1. Wear WHITE.
Saturday 1:30 at WHS #1. Wear NAVY.
Sunday 7:30 at WHS #2. Wear NAVY.

Remind the girls to watch this.

Sunday, August 10, 2014

It's a new season!

Are you ready?

This week kicks off our training, with a tournament next weekend and our Disney trip at the end of the month.

Mondays will be Futsal from 8:30-9:30.
Tuesday and Thursdays will be at SC 3 from 8:10-9:30.

Mark wants to have speed and agility training twice a week now. So that would be a 7:30 start on Tuesday and Thursday. Let's make that an 8:00 start for Monday and a 7:30 start for Thursday.  There's obviously an incremental cost for this. The girls are mature enough now to handle the extra work load, and it should make a difference in fitness and injury prevention. We are still hammering out the details on speed and agility. I'll update you before Tuesday.

I'll let you know as soon as I see the Rush Cup schedule. Our SCL schedule should be available sometime this week.

Let me know if I can help with anything.

NPL game vs. Dynamos

Saturday, May 10th we are playing the Dynamos at Dyess Park at 2:00 pm. We will be in Navy, but please bring white.

Monday, May 5, 2014

Video from Saturdays game.

Here is the link to our game on Saturday. It will only be active for one week, so if you want to keep it, just be sure to right click it and 'save as' on your computer.

Two fitting and important quotes...

Our strength grows out of our weakness.  Not until we are pricked and stung and sorely shot at, awakens the indignation which arms itself with secret forces.  A great man is always willing to be little.  Whilst he sits on the cushion of advantages he goes to sleep.  When he is pushed, tormented, defeated, he has a chance to learn something; he has been put on his wits; on his manhood; he has gained facts; learned his ignorance; been cured of the insanity of conceit; he has got moderation and real skill.

Various News

A few things to report.

1. There is a makeup practice today at 6:50 on L4. Vedad will be running it. Roz will be at our Thursday session at 5:30.

2. We have a game tomorrow against Space City at 6:30. We are wearing Navy. Be mindful of the traffic.

3. We play again on Monday at Dyess against the Dynamos at 7:00. Navy again. Traffic again.

4. We are planning on playing in the Challenge Texas Shootout on May 30 - June 1. If you can't make that weekend, please let me know.

5. There is a good chance we will go to Tulsa to play the game that has been cursed by nature. Maybe the first weekend in June? Not sure yet.

6. I am planning on signing us up for the Surf Cup. It's August 2-4 in San Diego. Please let me know if you think you can't make it. I'm sure there will be families willing to take your daughter, if you all can't come. Be warned though, if you send your daughter with me, she may also go to the San Diego Zoo, Legoland, and the beach.

7. Summer training program. Don't forget to check that link I sent before about the Express Summer Training Program. I think it's a great idea.

8. Speaking of registration with Express, fall registration is now open, and I think there's even a discount if you register before April 30. Here's the link: https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/hntsc/14-15/Welcome.html

9. Today is tax day. If you got a refund, hurray! If you had to write a check, then I'll be sure to enjoy an additional adult beverage on your behalf tonight.

10. Since I had 9 items above, it seemed like 10 would be a better number. So here's an interesting fact: if you flip a penny, it's actually not quite 50/50 to land on heads or tails. There is a very slight advantage to the side that was up when it was initially flipped. More surprisingly, if you spin a penny, there is something like an 80% chance it will land on tails. The heads side is slightly heavier, and causes the coin to fall in that direction more often than not.

11. I know I just made a case for ten items on my list, but I thought it would be funny if "this one goes to eleven." And my last tidbit of useless information is that the volume on the radio in a Tesla actually goes to eleven. In case you don't get the reference. http://youtu.be/4xgx4k83zzc

NPL games this week and next

We have an NPL game with Space City this Wednesday, 4/16, at 6:30 PM in the Clear Lake area at Dad's Park. We will wear Navy, please bring your whole kit! Traffic will be unpleasant getting there, so allow for a little extra time. The fields are at:

14500 Village Evergreen Trail
Houston, TX 77062

Don't forget that we are also playing next Monday, 4/21, at Dyess Park against the Dynamos at 7:00 PM on field 2. We will wear Navy for that game too. Traffic will also be a factor here too.

Dyess Park

Training tonight. Roz should be there at 6:00.

State Cup #3 - 4/5/14

We've got our third of five games coming up this weekend. We are playing Texas Rush at Katy Park Field 15 at 4:00pm on Saturday. Let's wear NAVY, but please bring everything.

I know I sound like a broken record in saying that this is an important game, but it is. Winning this keeps our State Cup dreams alive.

I think everyone is familiar with Katy Park, let's get there at least 45 min before.

My own thoughts:

In my amateur opinion this team has what it takes to win State Cup and NPL and so on. In every game we've played this year, we've shown brilliance and dominance. But in some games it's only there for a 15-20 minute window, and it's too little too late.

Intensity, desire, and the refusal to lose has to be there from the start.

In my cycling career, one of my formidable opponents (who had a string of National Championships, National records, and a legitimate international career) had a motto: Win, Crash, or DQ.

It meant that was losing was not an option. He would give it everything to win, even if that meant crashing or getting disqualified was the only alternative. Pretty hard core if you think about it. But very effective.

Thought #2:

I hear Mark dishing out advice and instruction with more enthusiasm and emotion than ever before. And I hear him repeating himself a lot. Are the girls simply not listening? Or not following instruction? Or willfully doing something different?

I don't think so.

It's human nature. People have a difficult time changing their opinions or beliefs very quickly. There are cognitive biases that impact our judgments. In this case, I believe it's anchoring and insufficient adjustment and conservatism.

Imagine a scale of 1-10 in terms of aggressiveness on the field.

Mark emphatically tells the girls to "be more aggressive!"

The girls are at a 2 on the scale of 1-10. Mark wants them to be at a 9. The girls hear the message, and they make a change, but because of anchoring (anchored to the old way of playing, i.e. 2, and conservative and insufficient adjustments relative to the anchor point) they ramp up their play to a... 3.

Five minutes later Mark is telling them to be more aggressive (he's barely noticed a change going from 2 to 3). The girls may go to a 4. Or maybe they get frustrated with the situation, thinking to themselves "I did get more aggressive! What the heck?" In either event, they're certainly not at a 9, and this process will take a long time to get them there.

My advice to Claire has been this. When Mark tells you to do something, do it. Don't do it just a little, don't make a tweak - really embrace it. Find the limit of what Mark wants from you. See if you can get him to tell you to bring it down a notch - then you'll know you've found where he wants you to be.

The closest analogy I can think of is the game where I think of a number between 1 and 100, you guess, and I tell you if it's higher or lower. A reasonable person would start at 50. I say my number is higher than 50. Perhaps your next guess is 75. I say higher still. You have to keep pushing higher until I say "lower", then you know you're close.

Conclusion: Be aggressive. Be strong. Work hard. Take chances. Take them on. WANT TO WIN MORE THAN THEM. Take all these things to a "10" on your Mark's scale. See if you can be the one where Mark says, "That's it! That's what I'm looking for!"

Disclosure: These thoughts are purely my own, and they may or may not be helpful. Mark hasn't seen any of this, and anything he says clearly supersedes anything I've said here.

State Cup Game #2

It's another early start for us tomorrow. We are playing Albion at 8:00am at Zube park field #5. Let's wear WHITE, but as always please bring the whole kit. I think we're only going to be missing 2 girls tomorrow, so we're almost back to a full squad.

Zube Park is just off 290, exit Roberts Road and turn right.

Zube Park

Also, I put a link to the State Cup standings on the home page. Let's put up a big win tomorrow and see how it feels to be on the top of that list.

First State Cup Game

I'm sorry I've been off the grid this week, we've been in the hill country with no phone and no internet.

We have our first state cup game Saturday morning at 8:00 at Burroughs on field 6 against Challenge. Every game counts. It would be great to start with a big win. We will be without quite a few girls, so bring your fitness with you.

Let's wear Navy, but please bring white. It's going to be a very early start, so make sure you're on time, and let's get in a string warmup. We need to come out swinging.

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Ok, disregard my previous post. Liverpool FC has dropped out of NPL, and that game they have scheduled  for us this Saturday is just a place holder. The real game is at 1:45 pm vs. Tulsa Blitz. We play them again on Sunday at 9:00 am.

We can wear NAVY on Saturday and WHITE on Sunday. The fields are near Alvin.

1156 Fox Meadow Dr.
Alvin, TX 77511

We are on field #1 on Saturday and field #5 on Sunday.

As far as NPL standings go, it's pretty tight, and we need to win these games. But then again, isn't that always true?

In other news, I added the link to the State Cup Schedule on the front page.

3/15-16 NPL

Some of you noticed the confused schedule on the NPL site. They updated it today, and now it shows that we will be making up that missed game in Dallas immediately after our first game. So, Saturday we have a 12:00 game, and then a 1:45. Sunday we play at 9:00.

Plan accordingly. More details to follow.

NPL games on 3/8-9

Sorry for the late update on this weekend's games. I've been off the grid most of this week.

Saturday we have a rematch against Eclipse. Game time is at 3:00 pm in Sugarland at Community Park, field L4. Let's wear NAVY, but bring the whole kit!

1700 Glenn Lakes Ln
Missouri City, TX 77459

Sunday we are at the same field at 11:00 am against the Dynamos team that we've already played twice (4-0 and 5-0). NAVY again.

I am told the State Cup schedule is supposed to be posted today. I'll link it on front page of the blog once I see it.

March 1 and 2

Hello team!

We have another NPL game this weekend. It's Saturday, March 1, at 3:30 pm at McGovern. We will be playing Eclipse. Let's wear all white, but bring the whole kit since we are the home team, the obligation is on us to change in a conflict. Please be there 45 min before game time.

Sunday we are playing in a friendly against Texas Rush. It's also at 3:30, and also wearing white, also be there 45 min before, but unfortunately the one difference is that we are driving to the Woodlands.

Here's the map, we are on field 2 at Bear Branch Park.

Also, we have no training tonight. Enjoy the day off. Stretch. And see you Saturday ready to perform!

Challenge Tournament

We are right back at it again this weekend.

Here is our schedule this weekend:

Saturday
7:30 am - vs. Lonestars Red South - Field 22 - We wear GREEN/NAVY.
11:40 am - vs. AHFC - Field 22 - We wear all NAVY.

Sunday
8:50 am - vs. Eclipse White - Field 22 - We wear NAVY.
12:50 pm - vs. TBD

For those of you not familiar with Lindsay Lyons, here is a map.

You know the drill:

  • Please be there 45 min before game time.
  • Bring your whole kit.
  • Dominate the competition.
  • Collect trophies.
  • Rinse and repeat.
Also...we have a NPL game at McGovern on Wednesday night, Feb 19 at 7:30.

And finally, I have some gifts for your daughters this weekend. Make sure they make good use of them!

Happy Valentines Day!

Dynamos Puma Cup

Hopefully the cold weather on Wednesday prepared you for tomorrow morning.

Our first game is at 8:00 am at Dyess Park. Let's all be there by 7:15. It is going to be bitterly cold again. Depending on which forecast will be least wrong, various websites I looked at are saying somewhere between 37-41 degrees at kick off. Please dress appropriately. Maybe leggings, definitely gloves. I'll have a blanket on the sidelines. The extras helped on Wednesday, so thanks for that!

We are playing Texas Rush (I'm not sure it's the same group we faced in SCLQ). In fact all of our games are on the same field (#4) at Dyess.

A. D. Dyess Park
16822 Kitzman Road
Cypress, Texas 77429

http://goo.gl/maps/cYwcI

Google maps says it's about a 45 minute drive from the West U area.
290 to Telge, turn right, then 7 miles later turn right on Kitzman.

UPDATE: 290 at Pinemont is going to be completely closed this weekend. Allow time for a longer commute. You can take the Westpark toll road to Beltway 8 or I-10 to Beltway 8 and then up to 290. 290 should be fine east of the Beltway. Then right on Telge, left on Kitzman. Double check google maps though, I am known to be directionally challenged.

Let's wear green, navy, navy (but please bring everything!) for our first and second games. Speaking of which....

The second game on Saturday is at 11:45. We play Albion. Same field. Same kit. It will be warmer for this game...supposedly.

We will be back at it again on 8:00 am on Sunday.

Here's a link to the tournament website. http://dynamospumacup.com/
You can get the schedule and results there. They even have an iphone app.

My plan is to grab breakfast out there after the first game, since there's not really enough time to make driving home and back worthwhile. I was thinking of 59 Diner on 249. I don't have a reservation, but anyone and everyone is welcome to join Claire and me.

This week

What a bummer to get cancelled again this Sunday! I'll keep you all posted on how and when we will make up that game.

In my amateur opinion, I thought Saturday's game had moments of brilliance, and we dominated possession, but we were lacking a little speed and cohesiveness. It's great that the girls have confidence, but we need to come out swinging and respect all of our opponents. I know it's cliche, but we have to learn how to deliver 100%, every game, from the whistle.

We should have our normal training today.

This Wednesday, 2/5, we have a NPL game. 8:00 start time against the Dynamos. The schedule shows the game at McGovern, but there is a chance we move to L4. Stay tuned on that. Let's arrive before 7:15, and we can wear white, but bring everything in case of a conflict.

We are playing in the Dynamos Puma Cup tournament this weekend. They should have a schedule up later today. You can check here.

We are also registering for the Challenge President's Day Invitational on 2/15-16. So please keep that weekend open.

Lastly, Sunday 2/23, at 2:00 we will be playing Texas Rush.

Sunday, February 2, 2014

More bad news.

In case you're checking here before you see the email, today's game in Dallas has been cancelled due to weather.

It's about to get really nasty out on the roads, so we are packing up to leave now.

Drive safe! See you next week.

NPL kickoff this weekend in Dallas

Here we go!

Most of us are heading to Dallas tomorrow morning (maybe some today) for our games this weekend.

Both games are at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park.

Valley Ridge Blvd.
Lewisville, TX 75057

Google maps shows 4 hours and 8 minutes in no traffic from my house (near McGovern).

Saturday we are on field #5 at 2:00 pm against Liverpool FC America. Plan on wearing white.

Sunday we play on field #4 at 9:00 am against Tulsa United Blitz. Let's wear green/navy.

Please bring all of your kit to each game in case of a uniform conflict.

On Saturday, especially if you're driving up that morning, please plan on being there 1 hour before game time. It will take a little longer to get warmed up after the drive. Also, plan your lunch accordingly, eat early enough so that it's not a problem with warmups, and try to avoid greasy fast food if possible.

For those of you staying at the Sheraton Stonebriar, I will be there. There are a couple restaurants next door, so I'll work on getting a dinner reservation. (I'm thinking Cantina Laredo and a margarita or two...)

The Stonebriar is at:
5444 State Highway 121
Frisco, TX 75034

It's a straight shot to/from the fields down 121.

The weather for the Saturday game looks like it will be OK. 66 degrees and only a slight chance of rain. Sunday is another story. The forecast now says it will be 35 and windy, with a chance of sleet or freezing rain later. So come prepared for all sorts of weather. Girls will probably want gloves and something for their heads/ears. The one thing we know about weather forecasts is that they are certainly wrong. It could be cold and miserable on Saturday too. Hope for the best; prepare for the worst.

Also, Mark will not be in Dallas. As you may know, Express is hosting a tournament here for younger teams, and he will be tied up with that. Gui Gui will be in Dallas for us instead.

Some NPL information:
The NPL is asking teams to make a FIFA field entrance with handshakes prior to each game kick off. It would be great if someone got some pictures.

There are some slightly different NPL Rules that you and the girls should be aware of:

3.10 Substitutions. Once a SCPL Registered Player is substituted in one half of any SCPL Competition, such SCPL Registered Player may not re-enter the game for the duration of the half. Once a SCPL Registered Player is substituted in one period of overtime of any SCPL Competition, such SCPL Registered Player may not re-enter the game for the duration of such overtime period. There shall be a maximum of seven (7) substitutions in any half or in any overtime period of any SCPL Competition.
3.12 Yellow and Red Cards (Players). Any SCPL Registered Player receiving a red card in a SCPL Competition will be suspended for the remainder of that SCPL Competition and also for the next SCPL Competition played by the SCPL Club at all age groups. For purposes of clarification, if a SCPL Registered Player receives a red card in a SCPL Competition, the SCPL Registered Player will not be eligible to participate in the next SCPL Competition for any team within the SCPL Registered Player’s SCPL Club.

And finally...check our our NPL schedule, we've added some games.

This week...

Slight change of plans.

Tomorrow, we are going to have a training session, instead of evaluations. So, please come McGovern from 6:30 until 8:00. We will do the same on Thursday.

If you've checked the NPL schedule, you may have noticed they cleaned up the errors, and everything looks accurate now. We have games in Dallas 2/1 and 2/2. The Saturday game is at 2:00 pm, so driving up the day of is certainly an option.

I know I promised hotel information, and I'm still working on that. I should post something here tomorrow morning about that. The good news, is that we're not locked into any one hotel or booking through the tournament. So, you're free to stay wherever you like.

We'd like to schedule some friendly games for the weekend of 1/25 and 1/26. I know some of the girls have high school entrance exams. So, I'm working on a 3:00 pm time on Saturday and something earlier (noon?) on Sunday. Will you please let me know if you can't make these?

Feb 1-2

More spam...I know...

It seems that we are ON for NPL games in Dallas for the February 1 and 2 weekend.

However, the NPL website doesn't look quite right. Until I confirm it, or get it corrected, I'm holding off on making travel plans.

Since this is NPL and not a tournament, we won't get penalized for using a hotel outside of the system, but the local team has offered to help. As soon as we get the exact schedule nailed down, I'll send out another note about booking rooms. The schedule doesn't reflect this now, but our Saturday game is supposed to be in the afternoon, so we should be able to drive up the day of, rather than the Friday before.

You can see the NPL schedule by click on the the link at the top right of the blog home page.

Stay tuned.

Sorry for the spam...

I apologize for the recent flood of posts/emails. I just want to keep communicating everything to help you all plan accordingly.

We are NOT going to participate in the Texans Madness tournament. There weren't enough U14 teams. Stay tuned as we are considering other tournaments.

We are going to start training a little earlier than I had previously said. Please try to come to the evaluations on Tuesday 1/14. And also for our first training session on Thursday 1/16 from 6:30 - 8:00 on L4 at South Campus.

Tournaments, State Cup, and Spring Break

Well, that didn't take long...

We are signed up for the Texans Madness Tournament January 18-19 at Meyer Park. No word on schedules yet, I'll be sure to update you on that. If you can't make it that weekend, please let me know ASAP.

We are looking at other tournaments as well, so stay tuned.

In the spring we will be playing the State Cup which is part of the National Championship Series. The format is round robin among the top 6 teams in South Texas. From those games, the top two teams play each other, with the winner advancing to a regional tournament and then possibly the Nationals!

Here are some dates for you to consider:

March 22-23 – Group Play Begins for U14
March 29-30 – Group Play Date: U14
April 5-6 - Group Play Date: U14 and U15
April 12-13 – Group Play Date: U14; Group Play Begins for U15-U18
April 18-19 – NO GAMES: Easter
April 26-27 – Group Play Date ALL age groups
May 2-3 – Group Play Date ALL age groups
May 10-11 – Group Play Date ALL age groups
May 17-18 – RAIN DATE
May 24-26 – State Cup Finals Weekend
June 19-26 – Region III Tournament, Baton Rouge, LA
July 21-27 – Nationals Championships, Germantown, MD

Now, if you've looked closely at the calendar, you're probably thinking what I'm thinking. Spring Break is book-ended by games. We have NPL games on March 15-16 and State Cup games on March 22-23. I know many of you already have travel plans. Would you please email me to let me know if you'll be available for those weekends? ryan@craneonline.com

EDIT: We don't have an actual schedule for the State Cup games, I'm just sharing what's on the stxsoccer website. I'm sure it's possible that things could change. I just wanted you to know what I know.

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

Happy New Year

Greetings!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays and the time off.

We will start training again on January 20th. But prior to that are the Express evaluations. As you know, attendance isn't required since we are an SCL team. However, there will be some girls from outside the club showing up, we will need enough of our team there to give them a real challenge. The time slot is January 14th from 7:00 - 8:30 at South Campus. Please try to make it if you can.

State Cup play doesn't start until a little later this year, but we are looking at some tournaments. So stay tuned. I will get back to you when I have some dates and locations to report.
